1. Introduction

Locationews Oy (“we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how the Retkipaikka mobile application (the “App”) collects, uses, and shares your data.

We operate on a privacy-first principle: We do not require user accounts, and your personal saved data (such as “My Locations”) is stored locally on your device.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Location Data

The App requests access to your location (GPS and network-based).

  • Foreground Location: Used to show your current position on the map and find nearby destinations. The location data is associated with signal measurements of mobile connection (see 2.2).
  • Data Handling: Your precise location is used to display content near you and anonymous network analysis. We do not track your movement history for behavioral advertising.

2.2 Network and Device Information (Netradar)

To improve mobile network coverage maps and user experience, the App collects anonymous data regarding your mobile connection. This includes:

  • Signal strength
  • Network type (e.g. 4G/5G)
  • Throughput/Speed
  • Approximate location of the measurement

2.3 Device Identifiers and Usage Data (Firebase)

We use Google Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to improve app stability. We collect:

  • Crash Logs: Information about why the app crashed (stack traces).
  • Usage Data: Anonymous statistics on which features are used most.
  • Advertising ID (AD_ID): While we do not show third-party ads, the App may use the Android Advertising ID for attribution and analytics purposes (e.g., to see if users installed the app via a specific link).

2.4 User-Generated Content

  • Photos and Saved Locations: You may grant permission to access your Camera and Storage. Any photos you take or locations you save are stored locally on your device. We do not upload your personal photos or other personal content to our servers.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share specific technical data with trusted third parties to provide the App’s functionality:

3.1 Netradar (Network Analysis)

We share anonymous location and network performance data with Netradar. This data helps build public maps of mobile network quality. This data is anonymized and cannot be used to identify you personally.

3.2 Google Services

  • Firebase: Processes analytics and crash reports and allows delivering notifications.
  • Google Maps: Processes map data and location to render the map interface.
  • Google Play Store: Handles all payment processing.

4. Payments and Subscriptions

The App offers premium features via subscription.

  • Processing: All financial transactions are handled entirely by Google Play.
  • Data Security: We do not collect, store, or have access to your credit card information or bank details. We only receive a digital receipt from Google confirming that a purchase was valid.

5. Your Data Retention and Rights

  • Local Data: Since we do not have user accounts, your “My Locations” and saved preferences are stored on your phone. If you uninstall the App or clear app data, this information will be permanently lost. We cannot recover it for you.
  • Analytics Data: Data stored by Firebase and Netradar is retained in accordance with their respective retention policies and is anonymized.
  • Permissions: You can revoke Location, Camera, or Notification permissions at any time in your device settings.

6. Children’s Privacy

The App is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13.
